Lake District Wild Camping
Quick Summary
A two-day Lake District wild camp with big fell days, cold-water swims, and a high camp above Lingcove Beck. The full route covered 32.28 km with 5795.4 m of ascent.
Day 1
We started with a swim in Seathwaite Tarn before heading into the hills. From there the route took in Swirl How, Great Carrs, and Crinkle Crags, linking a long stretch of high ground before dropping to camp.
The standout part of the day was finishing with another swim at the top of Lingcove Beck. After a full day on the fells, it felt like a good way to stop moving and settle in for the night.
Day 2
The second day was simpler and quieter in the notes, but the swims still framed it. We had a swim in the River Esk and another at Birks Bridge before wrapping things up.
Highlights and Learnings
A few things stood out from this trip:
- Starting and ending sections of the route with a swim gave the whole outing a clear rhythm.
- The high ground linking Swirl How, Great Carrs, and Crinkle Crags made Day 1 feel like the main event.
- The camp above Lingcove Beck was the part that stayed with me most.
